About The Wensleydale School
The Wensleydale School demands the very best from its staff and students. It is uncompromising in wanting every child to get the very best from their education, and its results speak for themselves. The school is amongst the very best in the region for the progress made by its students make, and as a result its exam performance significantly exceeds the local and national average.

Julia Polley is the Headteacher of The Wensleydale School and is passionate about ensuring each student has access to the best opportunities at this rural school in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

Julia says, “We are ambitious and have the highest expectations of and for everyone who belongs to the school community. We want our students to have outstanding exam results and excellent communication and inter-personal skills. Not just one, but all three. If we achieve this, students have choice. And choice is liberating.

As a rural school we face many challenges such as having a catchment area of 900 square miles. Budget is always a struggle; the new DfE funding formula if very city centric, and we have lost many funding streams. But our priority is the success and wellbeing of our students and we continue to offer them every opportunity we can, regardless of the restraints we face”.
